Motorists driving through downtown Stamford on Thursday should expect heavy delays throughout the day due to construction.

The delays, expected to last until 6 p.m., will be primarily on Summer Street and Washington Boulevard between Broad and Main streets, Stamford Police said in an advisory issued just before 10 a.m. Thursday.

Avoid operating a vehicle in the area if you don't have to, police said.
